Barcelona wanted Torres to stay, but he made it clear that he wanted to leave for PSG. Why is Lamine Yamal unhappy with Torres?

Lamine Yamal had hoped Torres would stay, given the pair shared a good connection on the pitch. However, it was not the decision itself that disappointed the 19-year-old most, but rather, the way in which he went about it – he pushed for an exit, and given he only had a year left on his Barcelona contract, the club were forced to cash in.

On the back of this, Lamine Yamal has effectively cut contact with Torres – the pair still have a relationship, but there is much less of a friendship that exists. Thus, things could be awkward during the ongoing international break, with both having been called up to the Spain squad for the first matches of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League.

It will be interesting to see whether the on-field connection between Lamine Yamal and Torres is affected by the summer’s events. Spain will hope not, given they want to continue proving themselves as the world’s best side following their 2026 World Cup success. From a Barcelona perspective, the situation is unlikely to have much of an effect on the club, but they will hope their star player keeps out of trouble on international duty.
