Lamine Yamal makes Barcelona admission after flying start: “We can still develop” | OneFootball

After ending the last season with an injury, the FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has started 2026-27 season in a red-hot form, having already scored eight goals and provided six assists in eight official matches so far. Before the start of the season, he helped the Spanish national team win the World Cup, remaining a crucial player for Luis de la Fuente during the tournament.

As a result, he is one of the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or this year. In the weeks prior to the ceremony when this award will be handed out, he has been appearing in quite a few interviews.

As Mundo Deportivo has noted, his latest interview came with l’Equipe, during which he talked about several aspects related to Barcelona. The winger was confident that people like watching Hansi Flick’s team play and how the training sessions are also not a burden for the players:

“I have the feeling that we are a team that is a pleasure to watch. We play to attack, keep possession and score goals. You can see that we enjoy ourselves, that we are like one big family and that, every time we step onto the pitch, we have fun.

We don’t think, ‘Today I’m going to training’; it’s more like, ‘I’m going to see my teammates, we’re going to have a good time, we’re going to train.’ Then matchday comes and everyone enjoys it: the full-back, the goalkeeper, the striker, everyone.”

Yamal highlighted some aspects that allow the team to bond so well:

“We are lucky that many of us have come through the academy. We have grown up together and learned the same style of football, and even with the more experienced players, like Raphinha, we are like brothers. We are all pulling in the same direction, we respect each other and we want the same thing: to win. And that really shows.”

The star forward assured that the new signings are also at the same level as players from the last season:

“They are at the same level and, above all, they have adapted very well. We understand each other as if we had been together for four years. With João Cancelo, Gabriel, Adeyemi, Gordon, Rodri… with everyone. We get on very well and there is a lot of chemistry.”

Meanwhile, the Spaniard also admitted that this Barcelona team can improve even further:

“In La Liga, we score a lot of goals and don’t concede as many; it happens more when we play in European competitions, where there are teams with great attacking quality. Even if we can score seven goals, conceding five or six is not good. So that is something we need to improve.

There are days when we have to attack better and others when we have to defend better. And it is not just down to the defenders; it covers everything from pressing immediately after losing the ball to, obviously, the defensive line. I think we can improve; we are a young team that can still develop.”

It is quite heartening to see Lamine Yamal still seeing room for improvement in his team even after such a wonderful start to the new season. Hopefully, Hansi Flick will be able to work on some weaknesses that Yamal highlights, and Barcelona will get even better in the coming weeks.
