Frank Lampard’s former assistant manager at Chelsea, Jody Morris, has backed the current Coventry City manager to take charge of England in the future.

England are currently managed by Thomas Tuchel, whose contract lasts until after next year’s World Cup.

Jody Morris, speaking with Hayters TV via Casino.org, who review the best new online casinos, was asked if he thinks Lampard would make a good England manager in future. He said: “Absolutely. Obviously not wanting to talk about someone that’s nowhere near the role at the moment though.

“But you have to say that if you’re thinking about English managers that tick all the boxes, other than Eddie Howe, I don’t think that there’s many outstanding candidates for that role.

“And when you look at what Frank’s accomplished in his playing career, especially for England as well, what he represents, you’d have to say that he’d be one that you’d be looking at. We all know Eddie Howe’s probably slightly ahead of him at the moment, but if he carries on doing what he’s doing, there’s no reason why I wouldn’t see the FA looking at someone like a Frank Lampard.

“I actually thought that even before they appointed Tuchel. I know he’s certainly going to be making a stronger case because of the success that he’s bringing to Coventry at the moment. But absolutely, I see him as a future England manager.”

Lampard is currently managing Coventry City and has guided them to a five-point lead at the top of the Championship after 15 games played.

Asked whether the former Chelsea manager had ever spoken to him about the national team job, Morris said: “Not openly, we haven’t spoken about it. There was maybe the odd little chat a while ago. I think he’d certainly be open to conversation, to put it that way. Frank’s never hidden his delight at representing his country at all the levels.

“I was lucky enough to play with him at Under-21 level. He’s passionate about his country, and I think it’s certainly something that he would be open to listening to and to having conversations about in the future. Like I said, he’s doing such a great job at Coventry at the moment. That will be his full focus.

“But who knows what can happen in the future? And hopefully, we have success with Thomas Tuchel anyway. But we all know how quickly things can change in football. But I definitely see Frank as a future England manager, yes.”
