According to Daily Echo, Saints striker Cyle Larin was absent from Canada’s squad to face Peru on Saturday amid reports of a minor back issue.

Head coach Jesse Marsch had said before the match that the 31-year-old would be assessed on the day after hurting his back in the weight room.

Larin had started the 1-0 win against Chile a week earlier, then missed the 2-0 victory over Peru in Montreal.

He remains with the national team, who are due to play the United States in the early hours of Wednesday in their final friendly.

The forward will continue to be monitored, with hopes that he recovers quickly.

Larin is in fine form for Saints, scoring eight goals in all competitions and leading the Championship golden boot race.

His performances earned him the Championship player of the month for August, and Saints host Portsmouth next Sunday with Larin expected back at Staplewood in the second half of next week.
