Lars Stindl appointed Germany under-20 assistant manager

The DFB have announced that former Borussia Mönchengladbach and Karlsruhe forward Lars Stindl has been appointed assistant manager of the Germany under-20 side.

Stindl will become part of Hannes Wolf’s coaching team from September 1st and this new role will be his first step towards becoming a coach. On his new role, Stindl said:

“I am really looking forward to this task and working with the coaching team and the players. For me, the assistant coach position for the U20s is the perfect opportunity to take my first steps in coaching. As a player, I always enjoyed working for the DFB and will try to contribute my experiences and views in the future.”

As assistant coach, Stindl will be able to instil his wisdom and experience into the under-20 squad which currently includes exciting players such as Bayern Munich’s Paul Wanner, who is currently on loan at Heidenheim.

The 35-year-old retired from football this summer when ended his career after a final season at boyhood club Karlsruhe. Before that Stindl had spent eight seasons at Borussia Mönchengladbach where he played in the Champions League, and Europa League and featured for the German national team.

Stindl was also part of the last German team to win anything, as he played a key role in Germany’s 2017 Confederations Cup win in Russia, where he finished joint top scorer with three goals.
