Lautaro Martinez confirms Barcelona interest, reveals why he rejected them | OneFootball

Striker Lautaro Martinez was linked with a move away from Serie A champions Inter in the summer, as Barcelona were once interested.

A deal never went through, as the Nerazzurri stood firm and were keen on keeping their Argentine, who was seen as a possible alternative to Julian Alvarez by the Catalan side.

The Inter striker was asked about the rumours around Barcelona today. He confirmed that the speculation held some truth but he also revealed reasons behind his decision to stay with Cristian Chivu’s side.

He told Sky Italia – via Alfredo Pedulla: : “Barcelona? When offers like this and these calls arrive, it’s always nice: you work to stay at the top. The rumors were true, but I have very clear ideas. I wanted to stay here with my teammates and these magnificent fans.”

Martinez clarified that Inter have all he needs and he wouldn’t be anywhere else right now.

The striker said: “I would stay forever, and as long as they want me, I’ll stay here. Then, at work, we know: when you’re no longer needed, they send you away. For me, Inter is all pride, happiness, and the desire to continue. I’ve chosen to stay here once again; I want to do great things at Inter.”

Martinez’s comments – once again, shed light on his loyalty to Inter. This has always been emphasised in the past and doesn’t really need documenting but the player has an indelible connection which will be difficult to break unless something extraordinary transpires.
