Inter continued their European campaign with another show of strength. At San Siro, the Nerazzurri beat Slavia Praha with a convincing 3-0 win, on the second matchday of the League Phase of the 2025/26 Champions League. The win came about thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez and a goal from Denzel Dumfries. With this win, Cristian Chivu's side are on six points.
The evening at San Siro showed the Captain's true quality. Lautaro Martinez scored a brace which left a mark on history: he is the first Inter player who has scored in seven different editions of the European Cup/Champions League, surpassing Julio Cruz (six). This achievement places him amongst the best in European football: only Haaland, Griezmann and Mbappé have had the same rate of scoring continuity in the last seven seasons. For the Argentine, this is also his third multi-goal performance in the Champions League, after the hat-trick against Monaco last January and the brace - coincidentally also against Slavia - in November 2019. This is further proof of his ability to have a big impact in key moments.
Denzel Dumfries' goal to make it 2-0 proved his brilliant form in Europe. The Dutch international has made nine goal participations in the Champions League, for Inter, thanks to four goals and five assists. Since his arrival in Milano, only three other defenders have had a greater impact in the competition: Hakimi, Grimaldo and Cancelo. This statistic doesn't just show his constant threat on the flanks, but also the tactical importance of his role on European nights.
On an evening dominated by the attacking department, Alessandro Bastoni's influence was clear. With a decisive assist for Lautaro's second goal, the Inter number 95 confirmed his unique quality: since his Champions League debut in the 2020/21 season, he is the defender to have made the most assists, six. This statistic shows the two sides to his game, a clear ability to provide defensive solidity and attacking vision. Bastoni continues to be a point of reference, not just for the security that he guarantees at the back, but also for the quality he has in pushing the Nerazzurri forward on European nights.
Cristian Chivu wrote an important page in this chapter of his managerial career. With the win against Slavia Praha, he became the fourth Inter coach to win their first two Champions League matches, after Spalletti, Ranieri and Mancini. A perfect start for the Romanian Coach.
Other than the singles, the collective was key. Since the beginning of last season, Inter is the team that has obtained the most wins in the Champions League, 12 from 17 matches. 2025 has been the year to show Inter's attacking talents: no other team has scored two or more goals in more European matches compared to the Nerazzurri, nine from eleven, a statistic that confirms a consistency in front of goal at the ability to score with a host of different players.
