Lazio & Atalanta Swap Deal Brewing With Five Players Up for Discussion

Article image:Lazio & Atalanta Swap Deal Brewing With Five Players Up for Discussion

Lazio and Atalanta could work out an exchange deal in January, as five players could move from Bergamo to Rome or vice versa.

The Background

The Biancocelesti are currently awaiting the green light from the supervisory committee to resume their transfer activity. The decision is expected to be communicated on Tuesday. Still, many sources believe that the ban will only be partially lifted, which will force the club to operate at zero-cost parameters. In other words, Lazio will only be able to sign players after raising funds through sales.

Why Lazio Are Interested in Exchange Deals

Amidst these delicate circumstances, exchange deals could prove particularly beneficial. The Aquile are already contemplating a swap deal with Genoa involving their goalkeepers Christos Mandas and Nicola Leali. Moreover, an exchange with Atalanta could also represent a plausible solution for both clubs.

Lazio Following Lazar Samardzic & Marco Brescianini

Ahead of the January transfer session, Maurizio Sarri has made it clear that a new box-to-box midfielder with an eye for goal is the club’s priority. Lazio have already been linked with Atalanta’s Lazar Samardzic, who is currently struggling for playing time under Raffaele Palladino, but as reported earlier this week, his teammate Marco Brescianini represents a more affordable alternative.

Lazio Make Contact with Daniel Maldini

In addition to the two Atalanta midfielders, La Lazio Siamo Noi reveals that the Biancocelesti are also keeping tabs on Daniel Maldini, an attacking midfielder (who can also play on the wings) who is also starved of playing time under Palladino.

The AC Milan youth product will be keen to leave Bergamo to rescue his chances of earning an Italy call-up ahead of a potential World Cup campaign. The source reveals that Lazio have already made contact, inquiring about the 24-year-old’s availability, but they have yet to launch concrete negotiations.

Atalanta Tracking Fisayo Dele-Bashiru & Taty Castellanos

On the other hand, the report notes that Atalanta are interested in Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Taty Castellanos. The Nigerian midfielder has rarely featured under Sarri due to his injury and AFCON commitments, but he’s not considered an essential figure in the manager’s plans.

Who Would Replace Castellanos at Lazio

As for the Argentine centre-forward, he remains Sarri’s first choice upfront, but the head coach wouldn’t mind selling him to fund a deal for a replacement who could be a better fit for the 66-year-old’s tactical system. The top targets remain Atletico Madrid’s Giacomo Raspadori and Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal.
