Lazio forward Daniel Maldini has joined the list of absentees for the trip to Torino after picking up an ankle knock.
The 24-year-old has been a regular starter for Maurizio Sarri, who has been fielding him in an unusual role as a centre-forward since joining the club in January on loan from Atalanta. The versatile attacker has yet to open his account for the Biancocelesti, but the manager has been impressed with his work rate and technical skills, albeit he’s been urging him to make more runs to the box.

However, Maldini won’t take part in the action on Sunday. Lazio released the squad that travelled to Turin on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s Serie A contest, and the Atalanta loanee wasn’t on the list. The club’s other absentees are Samuel Gigot, Mario Gila, Elseid Hysaj, Toma Basic, as well as Nicolo Rovella, who underwent surgery on Monday. The good news is that Manuel Lazzarri is available again.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Maldini sustained a slight ankle problem, so the technical staff opted to leave him behind at Formello, but they hope to recover the player’s services for Wednesday’s all-important clash against Atalanta in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final. The same goes for Basic and Gila, who trained separately this week.
With Maldini ruled out of action, Petar Ratkov is now the favorite to lead the line against Torino, supported by Mattia Zaccagni and Gustav Isaksen.
