Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas has reportedly asked the club to grant him leave in January after getting fed up with his lack of playing time.

The Background

The 24-year-old first joined the Serie A club in the summer of 2023, completing a transfer from OFI Crete. The Greek managed to impress in the final months of the 2023/24 season while filling in for the injured Ivan Provedel. He also managed to usurp the latter in Marco Baroni’s hierarchy during the second half of the previous campaign.

Christos Mandas Keen to Leave Lazio in January

However, with Maurizio Sarri back at Formello, Provedel was restored as the ultimate first choice, while Mandas has yet to make an appearance in a competitive fixture since the start of the campaign. According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the frustrated custodian has requested a January transfer.

Wolves & Getafe Interested in Mandas?

The Roman newspaper confirmed that Wolves continue to monitor the situation closely. The Premier League giants had already launched an attempt to sign the Greece international in the past. Nevertheless, Spain could also be an option for the custodian, as his agency, YouFirst, has already been exploring opportunities in LaLiga, with Getafe mentioned as a potential suitor.

Lazio’s Asking Price for Mandas

As for the price tag, Mandas’ value had reached €20 million, but has now taken a hit due to the lack of playing time. Therefore, Lazio might be willing to accept offers in the region of €10 million. This would still constitute a sizable capital gain, as the Biancocelesti had spent around €1 million to buy him just over two years ago.
