Lazio are reportedly interested in Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, who has been placed on the shortlist.

The 29-year-old is an Inter Milan youth product who enjoyed his big Serie A breakthrough at Monza, before moving to Turin in 2024. The Bianconeri splashed €20 million to buy the custodian from the Lombardian club, but following a decent first season at the Allianz Stadium, he fell on hard times in the previous campaign, conceding avoidable goals.

Therefore, Juventus decided to replace him with a new shot-stopper and have recently secured the services of Guglielmo Vicario on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. Therefore, Di Gregorio is now considered surplus to requirements, even though Mattia Perin could leave the club as well after receiving an offer from Palermo.

According to reliable Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Lazio took the opportunity to enquire about Di Gregorio. While this move won’t necessarily be followed by a concrete offer, it suggests that Gennaro Gattuso and the management aren’t fully satisfied with their current options between the posts.

Lazio’s Current Goalkeeper Hierarchy

After selling their No.1, Ivan Provedel, to Inter Milan, the Aquile chose to back Christos Mandas, who returned to Formello after an unmemorable loan spell at Bournemouth. The Greek was identified as the new first-choice goalkeeper, with the young Edoardo Motta as his understudy.

However, Mandas started the campaign on a poor note, putting in a shaky performance in the Coppa Italia defeat to Mantova, similar to the majority of his teammates.

Is Di Gregorio to Lazio Plausible?

It should be noted that Lazio certainly cannot afford to buy Di Gregorio, whose book value can be estimated at circa €12 million. Hence, it remains to be seen if Juventus would be open to an initial loan. Moreover, the Biancocelesti are unlikely to add another goalkeeper to their ranks unless they part ways with either Mandas or Motta.
