Lazio midfielder Danilo Cataldi will reportedly be out of action until the next international break after suffering a calf problem.
The 31-year-old has been playing almost non-stop this season due to the absence of Nicolo Rovella, which rendered him Maurizio Sarri’s ultimate first choice for the deep-lying playmaker role. But unfortunately for Cataldi, he was forced to leave the pitch late in the first half after picking up against Sassuolo on Monday, prompting the manager to rely on Patric in an unusual role.
According to Radio Laziale (via Lazio Press), the Italian midfielder underwent clinical tests on Wednesday, and he’s expected to miss the team’s last two contests before the international break. The Biancocelesti will host AC Milan this Sunday, before playing Bologna at the Renato Dall’Ara on March 21.
On the other hand, Alessio Romagnoli may have avoided an injury, as Il Messaggero believes he could make an immediate return to action.
The experienced defender has been suffering from a hematoma since the Coppa Italia tie against Atalanta, and he’ll be hoping to be available for selection when Lazio host his former employers this Sunday.
In the meantime, the only official update that Lazio provided on Wednesday concerned Ivan Provedel, who underwent surgery to repair the damage in his shoulder.
The official statement confirms that the goalkeeper’s operation was successful, but his rehabilitation period will only begin after one month, which effectively rules him out of action for the remainder of the season.
S.S. Lazio announce that goalkeeper Ivan Provedel has been discharged from hospital after undergoing shoulder surgery. The operation was perfectly successful. The goalkeeper will now observe a period of joint rest with a brace for about one month, after which he will begin the rehabilitation protocol.
