Lazio ‘make approach’ for Morata after Icardi snub and Dieng blow | OneFootball

Alvaro Morata has emerged on Lazio’s shortlist, with a loan from Como a possibility after Mauro Icardi declined and Bamba Dieng failed a medical. Corriere dello Sport and Sport Mediaset report that an approach has been made for the Spain international.

The club are in the market for a centre-forward but are working with a tight budget. Icardi had been the priority, although he never seriously considered the move.

Lazio pursued free agent Dieng until a medical flagged a recurring knee issue, leading them to abandon the deal.

Morata, 34 in October, has had spells with Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Milan and Galatasaray. He joined Como on loan in 2025, then made the switch permanent a year later for €12m.

Coach Gennaro Gattuso is keen on Andrea Pinamonti of Sassuolo, but that would hinge on the striker signing a short-term extension at the Mapei Stadium before a loan with an option to buy. Lazio cannot currently take on any purchase obligation, which is why they reworked the Davide Frattesi arrangement with Inter.
