Lazio have sent the documents requested by the municipality of Rome as they continue to make progress on their plans to renovate the Stadio Flaminio.

The Background

The Biancocelesti have identified the currently-defunct facility as their desired home for the future. While the current ground has fallen into disrepair, the club would like to reconstruct the stadium and build other facilities around it to make it a true hub for Lazio supporters seven days a week.

Lazio Email the Required Stadio Flaminio Documents to The Municipality

Lazio president Claudio Lotito had already presented his plans to the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, who described it as a ‘beautiful’ project. However, the club was required to follow up on their presentation by sending the necessary documents, and they finally did so on Monday, as confirmed by the Roman municipality.

This morning, the Sports Department of Roma Capitale received, via certified email from S.S. Lazio, the documentation required for the procedure concerning the redevelopment, modernization and expansion of the Stadio Flaminio (pursuant to Article 4 of Legislative Decree No. 38 of 2021). In the coming days, the relevant municipal offices will carefully analyze and assess the dossier received in order to officially launch the project process by activating the preliminary conference of services.

How Much the Stadio Flaminio Will Cost Lazio

While Lotito and Co. will be hoping for a green light in the coming days or weeks, Il Messaggero reveals the outline of the project, which saw its estimated total cost soar from €432 million to €480 million. The plans include a 50,570-seat stadium, a Lazio museum, and more than 4,400 parking spaces.

Lazio Keen to Revive the Work of Pier Luigi Nervi

The City of Rome will remain the sole owner of the ground, but the Aquile are aiming to acquire the right to manage the ‘pre-existing’ structure for 90 years. The original stadium was designed by the famous Italian architect Pier Luigi Nervi (1891-1978), but Lotito insists that the renovated ground will remain true to his style.

Our project was developed by drawing inspiration from work by Pier Luigi Nervi himself on possible expansions of the Franchi stadium in Florence (another venue designed by Nervi) and of the Flaminio. Essentially, our project can be considered as if it had been designed today by Nervi himself.
