Lazio are one step closer to signing FC Nordsjælland teenager Noah Markmann, but will it be enough to complete the defensive department?
The Biancoceleste sold Mario Gila to AC Milan for €30 million and had also greenlit Alessio Romagnoli’s transfer to Al-Sadd. The 32-year-old is no longer expected to join the Qatari champions, but he’s unlikely to be reinstated in the squad due to his strained relationship with Claudio Lotito.
On the other hand, Lazio recruited a new defender in Danilho Doekhi, who completed a free transfer from Union Berlin. However, the department is still lacking another player alongside Oliver Provstgaard, Samuel Gigot, and Patric, especially with the last two struggling for fitness.
In recent days, Markmann emerged as a serious target for the Aquile. According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the two clubs are very close to reaching a full agreement on the 19-year-old’s transfer. Nevertheless, the source believes Sergi Dominguez, who has been Lazio’s top target, should remain in the conversation until the Dane finalizes his transfer to the Italian capital.
Il Corriere dello Sport adds that Nordsjælland have set their asking price at €7 million, while Lazio are offering €5 million plus bonuses, so a financial agreement should be attainable. The report adds that Markmann wasn’t included in his club’s latest matchday squad, officially for physical discomfort, which could be an alibi to mask a potential departure
The Roman newspaper insists that Markmann cannot be deemed a genuine successor to Gila, who is one of the finest defenders in Serie A, and neither can Doekhi. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Lazio would consider launching an onslaught for a more accomplished defender if they were to add the Denmark U21 international to their ranks.
