Lazio are planning to prioritise a new contract for Romano Floriani Mussolini after his emergence as a regular starter.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports the club will begin addressing 2028 expiries from January, with the 23-year-old’s extension viewed as a priority alongside Nicolo Rovella and Gustav Isaksen.

An academy product, he had spells away from Formello. A strong 2024/25 loan at Juve Stabia preceded a first Serie A chance at Cremonese, but he slipped out of favour after Davide Nicola’s dismissal and Marco Giampaolo’s arrival.

Cremonese chose not to exercise their option to buy, to Lazio’s benefit. After Adam Marusic was injured on the opening day against Bologna, Gennaro Gattuso turned to the Roman full-back and has kept him in the side.

Il Corriere dello Sport adds he is the lowest-paid player in the first-team squad. Capalogy states he earns a fixed €100,000 per year, similar to goalkeepers Alessio Furlanetto and Davide Renzetti.

With Marusic recovering, whether Floriani Mussolini keeps his starting place remains to be seen. He is considered Lazio’s long-term answer on the right, while Manuel Lazzari will most probably leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
