Lazio are reportedly closing in on signing Ferencvaros’ rising star Alex Toth, who could be the right profile to replace Matteo Guendouzi.
On Thursday, the Biancocelesti sold the French midfielder to Fenerbahce on a deal worth around €30 million, leaving a major hole in the middle of the park. The Italian capital side already brought in a new midfielder in the shape of Kenneth Taylor, who completed his move from Ajax on Friday. However, the Duchman is a left-footed player, so he might not be a direct replacement for Guendouzi.
As reported earlier this week, Lazio is determined to sign a right-footed midfielder as well, with three main targets on the shortlist. While Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian and Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber remain strong candidates, Toth has been identified as Angelo Fabiani’s preferred target.
According to reliable Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Lazio have reached an agreement with the young Hungarian midfielder and his entourage on personal terms. The Aquile are now negotiating with the player’s current employers, Ferencvaros. The source insists that the gap between the clubs is not significant. Hence, a deal could be struck in the coming hours or days.

Toth is considered one of the most exciting young players to surface on the Hungarian scene over the past few years. The Budapest native rose through the ranks at Ferencvaros and has been a member of the first team since January 2024. This season, he made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
The youngster has been linked with a host of top clubs across Europe, including Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle United, but Lazio have managed to put themselves ahead of the competition.
