Lazio could rekindle their interest in Giovanni Fabbian, as they could miss out on Alex Toth, who appears closer to joining Bournemouth.
The Biancocelesti have already signed a new midfielder in January in the shape of Kenneth Taylor, who made his full debut against Hellas Verona on Sunday. But while the management considers the Dutchman the left-footed profile requested by Maurizio Sarri last summer, the club still needs a right-footed midfielder to fill in for Matteo Guendouzi, who signed for Fenerbahce last week.
In recent days, Toth has been identified as Lazio’s preferred target for the role. The Aquile were at a certain stage considered the favorites to land the coveted 20-year-old Hungarian talent, closing in on an agreement with Ferencvaros. However, the Italian capital side didn’t close the deal rapidly enough, leaving an opening for other suitors.
According to several sources in the Italian media, including Gianluca Di Marzio and La Lazio Siamo Noi, Bournemouth have overtaken the Biancocelesti in the race for Toth, who is said to be enticed by the prospect of playing in the Premier League. The Cherries are now working on finding an accord with the Hungarian giants, who still hoping to keep the youngster until the end of the season.
Therefore, Di Marzio believes that Lazio could resort to Fabbian, who has been on their shortlist for more than a year. The 22-year-old isn’t an automatic starter at Bologna, but Vincenzo Italiano considers him important in his rotation.
While it remains to be seen if the Italian capital side can reach an agreement with the Emilians for the Italy U21 international, Lazio continue to monitor other solutions well. Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber has also been on the shortlist, but the Dutchman’s arrival remains unlikely, as he appears more inclined towards other destinations, with Borussia Dortmund currently leading the chase
