Sporting CP reportedly tried to sign Lazio centre-back Oliver Provstgaard, but he’s now considered off the market.

Oliver Provstgaard Enjoying Steady Rise at Lazio

The 23-year-old joined the Biancocelesti on a €4.5 million transfer from Vejle BK in February 2025. In his first few months at the club, he made limited appearances under Marco Baroni, but he became an important member of the squad when Maurizio Sarri took over last summer.

The young Dane was the first option off the bench behind Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli, and did fairly well whenever called upon. And with the Spaniard off to AC Milan and the Italian veteran expected to leave as well (despite seeing his move to Al-Sadd collapse), Provstgaard should become a regular starter this season, replacing Romagnoli in the left centre-back role.

Lazio Turned Down Sporting Offer for Provstgaard

According to La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Sporting made an attempt to sign the Denmark international, but the Biancocelesti swiftly turned down the offer, as the player is now deemed untouchable.

How Lazio’s Centre-Back Department Will Look This Season

Provstgaard has recently been joined by Danilho Doekhi, a 28-year-old Dutch defender who completed a free transfer to Lazio after seeing out his contract with Union Berlin. With Patric and Samuel Gigot still hampered by physical issues, the Biancocelesti are expected to recruit one more centre-back.

But while Sergi Dominguez remains the top target, Lazio have been unable to find an agreement with Dinamo Zagreb for the 21-year-old Spaniard. On the other hand, they have reportedly made progress in their talks with FC Nordsjælland for Noah Markmann, a 19-year-old Danish centre-back who could follow in Provstgaard’s footsteps at Formello.
