Lazio are exploring a late move for FC Basel winger Philip Otele after making an enquiry on deadline day. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Biancocelesti have contacted Basel to check the 27-year-old’s availability.
Born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Otele began his career in England with the academies of Teesside and Wolviston. He later had spells in Lithuania, Romania and the UAE before joining Basel in January 2025.
Last season he made 32 appearances for the Swiss champions in all competitions, scoring nine goals and supplying four assists. In January he moved to Hamburg on loan, playing nine Bundesliga matches with one goal and one assist.
He made his senior Nigeria debut earlier this year and has five caps. A right-footed attacker, he is most comfortable as an inverted left winger.
Even if Matteo Cancellieri remains, there could be space for Otele, with Mattia Zaccagni lacking a natural deputy beyond the versatile Tijjani Noslin. Transfermarkt values Otele at four million, and his Basel contract runs until June 2028. Further updates are expected before the window closes.
