Former Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne has reportedly been house-hunting ahead of a potential transfer to Lazio.

The Background

The 34-year-old is one of the best Italian players of his generation. He was a regular starter in the Azzurri side that won the Euro 2020 under Roberto Mancini. After spending the bulk of his playing career at his hometown club of Napoli, he had an underwhelming three-year experience at Toronto FC before making his return to Italy last summer.

Lorenzo Insigne Only Has Eyes for Lazio

The winger remains unattached and was last spotted watching the Partenopei beat Atalanta 3-1 at the Stadio Maradona on Saturday. According to multiple sources in the Italian press, Insigne has already turned down a few offers from Serie A, as he remains hellbent on reuniting with Maurizio Sarri at Lazio.

The player’s patience has been put to the test, as the Biancocelesti have been unable to sign new players due to the transfer ban imposed by COVISOC since July. However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito had promised to resolve the situation by mid-December, which would allow the club’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, to resume action on the market.

Insigne Looking for a House in Formello

According to Il Messaggero, Insigne is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. While he’s still residing in Naples, the player has been searching for a new house in the Formello region, where the club’s training facility is situated. The source adds that the veteran and his entourage have already found an agreement in principle with the Biancocelesti directors.

How Can Lazio Afford Insigne

Due to their fragile financial accounts, Lazio might be forced to maintain a zero-balance market. Nevertheless, the report believes this shouldn’t hamper Insigne’s arrival, as the club has already saved circa €1.3 million in wages by offloading Nicolo Casale to Bologna and Loum Tchaouna to Burnley, which should be enough to make room for the Napoli legend.
