Milan’s pursuit of Mario Gila has hit an early snag, with Lazio rejecting the Rossoneri’s opening offer for the Spanish defender.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, via MilanNews.it, the Biancocelesti sent the proposal back and are continuing to demand at least €30 million.

Milan had hoped to wrap up their second signing of the summer at the start of this week, following the arrival of centre-forward Gonçalo Ramos.

Gila, whose contract runs until 2027, informed Lazio some time ago that he does not intend to renew, and Milan have worked hard in recent days to strike a broad agreement with the player himself, moving ahead of Napoli and Atalanta, who had shown earlier interest.

Real Madrid clause keeps Lazio firm on Gila price

The reason for Lazio’s insistence on €30m is well known: they owe 50% of any sale to Real Madrid, a legacy of the deal that brought Gila to Rome.

That obligation leaves them little room to accept a reduced fee, and the gap between the two clubs currently stands at around €5 million.

Milan will need to improve their offer if they are serious about delivering Gila to Ruben Amorim, with a fresh update between the parties expected in the coming hours.

The framework is there, an agreement with the player, a clear willingness to sell on Lazio’s side, but the valuation still has to be bridged.
