Lazio will be light in defence for Sunday’s meeting with Napoli, with Patric ruled out through injury.

Il Messaggero reports the Spaniard has a muscle injury that will keep him out for at least a couple of weeks, a setback for Maurizio Sarri just as the treatment room had almost cleared.

This season, Patric has made only four Serie A appearances, starting with brief cameos in the wins over Genoa and Lecce. Last month he came on for the final 10 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Bologna after Mario Gila was sent off. He then deputised for his suspended compatriot in the following match in Parma, which finished in dramatic fashion.

With the former Barcelona defender unavailable, Oliver Provstgaard is set to be the only centre-back option on the bench against Napoli. Gila and Alessio Romagnoli are expected to start as usual.

Lazio will also be without Boulaye Dia and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who are away at the Africa Cup of Nations. In addition, Taty Castellanos has travelled to London to complete his move to West Ham.
