TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with CD Olimpia and LD Alajuelense drawing 1-1, with Alajuelense triumphant 3-nil on penalties, in the Second Leg of their Semifinals series on Thursday at Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Jorge Benguché scored for Olimpia in the 37’, sending the ball to the back of the net with a finish to the far post, capitalizing on a backheel assist from Jerry Bengston. The goal was the eighth for Benguché, who extended his lead in the race for the Top Scorer Award.

Anthony Hernández equalized for LD Alajuelense in the 71’, his second goal in the series, to send the match to extra time.

After a scoreless extra time, a penalty shootout was necessary to decide the winner.

The penalty shootout began with Olimpiá’s Carlos Sánchez missing his attempt high above the goal. Alexis Gamboa replied by netting Alajuelense’s first penalty.

Olimpiá’s Kevin López followed with another attempt that was too high. Alajuelense’s Ronald Matarrita then converted his penalty to double the lead for the Costa Rican club.

Alajuelense goalkeeper Washington Ortega saved the next penalty, denying the attempt from Benguché.

Guillermo Villalobos concluded the shootout by scoring the final kick to secure the 3-nil win on penalties.

The result sends LD Alajuelense to its third consecutive Central American Final. La Liga will meet CSD Xelajú MC to determine the winner of the 2025 edition.
