Le Conseil national d'éthique et de déontologie has opened a review into a potential conflict of interest after Jean-Michel Aulas, a vice-president of the FFF, proposed a new stadium in La Duchère while running for Lyon mayor. According to Challenges, the body acted on its own initiative following his comments, which could breach rules set for his candidacy.

The former OL president set out the plan on Wednesday, saying he wants to build a football ground in La Duchère. In a video on X, he considered a 10 to 15,000 capacity, with possible use for Lyon-La Duchère.

The idea has raised eyebrows, given the National 3 club draws only a few hundred for home games. It has also gone down badly at the FFF. Aulas is standing as an opposition candidate backed by the right and centre.

Rules agreed when he entered the race stated he should not make football-related promises, to avoid any conflict of interest. In remarks on Tuesday, he linked the proposal to the FFF’s creation of Ligue 3, where Lyon-La Duchère could play, and to the need for intermediate sports facilities.

Other declared candidates are the incumbent Grégory Doucet, Anaïs Belouassa-Cherifi, Delphine Briday, Alexandre Humbert Dupalais, Georges Képénékian and Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert.
