Le Havre’s away form has flipped from asset to issue, with a trip to Nantes on Sunday in Ligue 1’s matchday 23.

According to L'Équipe, their last away league game ended in a 1-0 defeat at Lens on 30 January. Last season they sealed survival with a late 3-2 win at Strasbourg, took seven away wins and 23 points, the sixth-best record, while collecting only 11 at home.

This season they are stronger at the Stade Océane, 20 points from 12, yet they have struggled away, just six points and five goals in 10 road matches. They are second-bottom and the lowest scorers in the away table, a stark reversal after finishing with the worst home attack last year, 15 goals.

Le Havre have a game in hand away and have already visited seven of the top eight, earning only a 1-1 draw at Rennes. There were fine margins, a missed penalty at 0-0 in Lyon and a red card at 1-0 in a 6-2 loss at Marseille, but they also lost 1-0 at both Lens and Strasbourg, venues they won at last term.

Didier Digard prefers a side that performs at home after last year’s struggles, but accepts they must work out how to win on the road.

Unbeaten at Nantes since promotion, they drew 0-0 then won 2-0 at La Beaujoire. A victory on Sunday, only their second away this season, would put them 15 points clear of the relegation-placed Canaris. Loïc Nego says the squad know the stakes, and as 13th before kick-off they are keeping only a cautious eye on Europe.
