The LFP disciplinary commission has confirmed Le Mans’ 2-0 win at Bastia, officially promoting Le Mans to Ligue 1 and relegating Bastia to Ligue 3. Ligue 3 will replace the National as a professional division next season.

According to L'Équipe, the Ligue 2 match on Saturday, part of the 34th round, was halted with only seconds remaining when referee Ruddy Buquet sent the players to the dressing rooms after flares and firecrackers were thrown from the stands.

The game did not restart and the disciplinary body upheld the result.

Bastia have been sanctioned with two matches behind closed doors at the Stade Armand-Cesari, plus one further game suspended. They avoided a one-point deduction for next season despite that threat.

The suspended penalty stemmed from disorder in December, when Bastia’s fixture against Red Star was abandoned before the hour after a flare from the home end landed on the pitch and struck Bradley Danger on the back. Bastia lost that match by forfeit, at 0-0 when stopped, and received a one-point deduction suspended.

Under the commission’s usual approach, a point is removed only when a participant is hit. That did not occur in Bastia v Le Mans, so the suspended sanction was not triggered.
