Toluca reached the Mexican Clausura semi-finals after ousting Tigres de Monterrey, with former Lyon trio Patrice Lair, Eugénie Le Sommer and Amandine Henry central to the upset.
According to Le Progres, the sixth-placed side in the regular phase won both legs 2-1 against the third. Tigres had lifted the Apertura title in November, with Eve Périsset in the squad and Damien Lopez on the staff.
It is a first-ever last-four berth for the club.
Next up is Club América, leaders in the Clausura regular season and runners-up in the Apertura play-offs, where they were beaten by Tigres.
Le Sommer said the Mexican league is highly competitive and that she is thriving, already on 32 goals. She believes that, aside from Lyon and PSG, Mexican sides outperform many in France and can match United States clubs in the Concacaf Champions League.
