Leandro Paredes will miss Boca’s clásico against Racing on Friday due to a right ankle sprain sustained against the same opponents last season, LaNumer12.com.ar reports.
The world champion signalled to be substituted against Platense on Sunday, triggering concern at Boca. It later emerged he had been managing the ankle issue in a bid to keep playing.
The injury was inflicted in last season’s final match against Racing on seven December, after a challenge by Santiago Solari. Boca lost that day and were eliminated from the Torneo Clausura.
A close-season break allowed him to feature in subsequent games despite persistent pain, but he must now step aside. It is an acute ligament sprain caused by a forced twist of the joint.
It is a significant loss for Claudio Úbeda’s side, with Milton Delgado the leading option to replace him. He could also miss the Copa Argentina tie scheduled for next Tuesday.
