Leaving Middlesbrough was a risk I had to take says Rob Edwards

Rob Edwards admits he understands the disappointment felt at Middlesbrough following his departure, but the new Wolves head coach insists he could not pass up the opportunity to return to a club he regards as home.
Edwards left Boro after just five months in charge, with the Teesside club sitting second in the Championship and firmly in the promotion mix. His switch to Wolves, who are bottom of the Premier League with only two points from 11 matches, has been met with surprise across the divisions. But for the 42-year-old, the emotional and professional pull of Molineux proved decisive.
A former Wolves defender with 111 appearances, and a coach who has worked across their youth and senior setups, Edwards said the chance to lead the first team was “something I’ve always wanted and dreamed of”.
“I know I’ve let Middlesbrough down,” he said speaking to media. “I get it. They’re a really good club and I wanted to be respectful. But I didn’t want to live with regret. I didn’t know if this opportunity would ever come again.”
Edwards accepts the scale of the task ahead. Wolves have not won a Premier League match in more than six months and face Crystal Palace on Saturday in what will be his first game in charge.
“There’s no perfect job in football,” he added. “But I’m excited by the challenge. I’ve got full belief in this group. I’m well up for it.”
