Huddersfield Town have won just one of their last six league games
Lee Grant has outlined the support he feels from Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle amid the side’s poor run of form.
The Terriers have won just one of their last six league fixtures, which has seen them fall out of the play-off places.
A 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers last week stung in particular due to the nature of the result, with Grant’s side throwing away a 1-0 lead in stoppage time through goals from Sam Dalby and Amario Cozier-Duberry.
The 42-year-old was appointed as manager in the summer, taking on his first role as a head coach after previously working under Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town.
But a difficult start to the campaign has put him under some pressure, with Huddersfield eyeing promotion back to the Championship at the second attempt.
Grant has made it clear that he feels very supported by Nagle, as well as CEO Jake Edwards, despite the team’s poor run of form at the moment.
He believes the last few weeks have shown their commitment to him as manager, and that they are in constant dialogue over the future of the team, which makes him feel backed.
"I think the last few weeks highlight that for me, personally,” said Grant, via The Yorkshire Post.
"I don’t want to go into too much detail because it’s private, but I speak with the owner and Jake every week and I’ve got a good rapport.
"If ever there’s a club to feel backed and supported, it’s here right now at this moment for sure.
"That goes from ownership where I can have an hour or so on Zoom and it’s really getting into the details of it and it’s important conversations and conversations around how we can keep moving, helping and developing this group.
"That’s the thing that will help us go forward and move in the right direction.”
Huddersfield have fallen to eighth in the League One table with their current form, leaving them five points adrift of the play-off places but with a game in hand on some of their rivals.
Their last victory came on 27 September in a 1-0 result against Exeter City.
The Terriers finished 10th last season, so will be keen to improve on that and compete for at least a top six finish, if not automatic promotion.
Next up for Huddersfield is a trip to face Wycombe Wanderers on 25 October in a 3pm kick-off.
Grant is obviously learning as he goes when it comes to management, as there is a big difference between being a coach and being the main man in charge.
So some patience is needed with the 42-year-old, and it’s something Nagle should’ve been factoring in when bringing him to the club.
Grant’s comments are positive, and indicate that he’s not feeling any pressure over his position.
The Terriers are in a poor run of form at the moment, but it’s still early days in the campaign, and they’re still in a solid position, so it would be very rash if they were to change manager anytime soon.
