Leeds United drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Croke Park in Dublin, then lost 5-4 on penalties for the Boyle Sports Cup.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Lee Sobot’s player ratings highlighted a standout debut for goalkeeper James Trafford.
United led in the 16th minute when Bryan Mbeumo escaped Jaka Bijol down the left and squared for Joshua Zirkzee to beat Trafford.
Leeds levelled on 29 minutes, Trafford’s quick clearance finding Lukas Nmecha, before Dan James intercepted and slipped in Brenden Aaronson to finish.
Daniel Farke made 10 changes at half-time. Leeds threatened early in the second period, but the game settled before Manchester United edged the shootout to lift the trophy.
Trafford was given eight after several first-half saves and sharp distribution, with his alert clearance sparking the equaliser. Sobot felt it was probably a seven, but as he had only signed on Thursday, the mark rose to eight.
Jayden Bogle scored six, lively going forward but exposed at times. Bijol received five after being beaten for the goal, though he improved and wore the armband. Sebastiaan Bornauw got six, caught high for the opener, then better as the only player to stay on. Tarik Muharemovic earned seven as the best centre half before the break. Youngster Rhys Chadwick took six at left wing back, defending well against Amad and showing promise.
