Leeds United could ‘definitely’ have an interest in signing Rennes defender Christopher Wooh after the World Cup if the centre-back impresses with Cameroon, according to Ed Aarons of The Guardian.
Jesse Marsch splashed more than £90 million on new signings in the summer transfer window but the upcoming Qatar showpiece will give him the chance to scout new targets before January.
The 21-year-old only made the move to Rennes during the summer transfer window, penning a four-year deal after a £8.5 million fee was agreed with Lens.
Wooh has been made to be patient since, sitting on the bench for his first five Ligue 1 outings with his new side before making his debut against Lyon this month.
He has since played every minute of each top-flight match, as well as finding the net against Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League.
In the summer, Wooh was handed his Cameroon debut by Rigobert Song, coming on as a substitute against Burundi in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
He will no doubt now be hoping to represent his country on the biggest stage of all.
Aarons says that Leeds are one of many teams in the Premier League who could potentially harbour an interest in Wooh after the World Cup.
The Guardian journalist adds that fellow top-flight side Leicester City may also like the look of the Cameroonian.
Aarons told GIVEMESPORT: “There are quite a few teams that could do with a defender like him. I mean, Leeds definitely springs to mind. Leicester, as well.”
Marsch’s side pulled off their most impressive result of the season on Sunday when they beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.
But, even with the win, they still sit just one point clear of the Premier League relegation zone, having shipped 19 goals in 12 games.
Marsch currently has four centre-back options at his disposal in Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and captain Liam Cooper, but none have impressed on a consistent basis.
A move for somebody like Wooh could well be justified but, at 21, there may remain doubts the youngster would be able to have an immediate impact at Elland Road.
