Leeds United are preparing the biggest Elland Road overhaul in decades, targeting a modern 53,000-capacity home while preserving its fearsome atmosphere. Plans include a full North Stand rebuild and major West Stand upgrade. The project includes expanded hospitality and improved accessibility.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the club’s call for feedback drew hundreds of responses, with supporters stressing that identity matters as much as extra seats. Readers highlighted five priorities for the redevelopment.
First, capacity must meet demand. With a large season-ticket waiting list, many want enough general admission seats so the next generation can get through the turnstiles rather than watch from home.
Second, 21st-century connectivity. Fans are pushing for robust WiFi and reliable mobile coverage so they can check scores, share updates and avoid the current matchday digital black hole.
Third, comfort. Calls for more legroom, wider concourses and easier circulation reflect years of cramped seating and bottlenecks that take the shine off an otherwise electric experience.
Fourth, safe standing. Many favour rail seating or designated standing areas that let singers stand for 90 minutes without obscuring views for seated supporters.
Fifth, better transport. With Armley Gyratory already a pinch point, especially around evening kick-offs, suggestions range from improved shuttle links to a tram connection, a direct link from the main railway station and a dedicated bridge over Elland Road.
