Leeds United round off the year away to the Premier League’s surprise package Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, aiming to extend a four-match unbeaten league run. They have beaten Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and drawn with Liverpool and Fulham.

Daniel Farke has said there is no chance Sean Longstaff will play on Sunday night.

Dan James remains sidelined with a hamstring problem. He has avoided surgery but is expected to be out until late January at the earliest.

Summer signing Lukas Nmecha could return to the squad after a calf issue, with a late call planned.

Sunderland have only one injury, with Aji Alese working back from a long-term lay-off. Luke O’Nien is suspended after being sent off against Man City earlier this month.

Six others are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, DR Congo pair Arthur Masuaku and Noah Sadiki, Senegal’s Habib Diarra, Morocco’s Chemsdine Talbi, plus Reinildo Mandava of Mozambique and Bertrand Traore of Burkina Faso.

Sunderland will be without eight players, with absences across both clubs potentially reaching 11 for the match on the 28th.
