Leeds United are reportedly closing in on an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Michael Zetterer, 31, as understudy to James Trafford. His arrival would enable Lucas Perri to depart this summer, following Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow out of Leeds since last season.

The Athletic reports that sources at Elland Road expect Eintracht, like Leeds, to recruit a goalkeeper before agreeing to a sale. Zetterer signed a four-year deal last summer, leaving three years to run.

The Munich-born goalkeeper began last season as number one, lost his place to Kaua Santos in mid-September, then regained it before the end of October. He kept the shirt until the Bundesliga’s winter break in late December.

Zetterer made 28 appearances in all competitions, recording seven clean sheets and conceding 45 goals. Santos, by comparison, conceded 42 in 16 games with two shutouts.

Perri, a one-time Brazil international, is due to join Torino on a season-long loan once Leeds secure a replacement, which would leave Alex Cairns as the only senior goalkeeper from last season. The former Brazil under-20 international Santos started Eintracht’s most recent pre-season friendly at Brentford, conceding seven in west London while Zetterer was on the bench.
