Leeds United have confirmed the departure of Isaac Schmidt to BSC Young Boys for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Bernese club.

"The goal has to be to achieve great things. I know it hasn't been easy the last two years. But I'm convinced the team has great quality and will show its best side in the new season. I want to contribute the experience I've gained in England and Germany and also be a support for the younger players in the squad," he told the YB website.

Schmidt joined Leeds from St Gallen in August 2024 and made 14 appearances in their Championship-winning campaign. He did not start a league game, with Jayden Bogle a virtual ever-present.

He spent last term on loan at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, playing 19 times, and they chose not to trigger a permanent option. The move takes the Lausanne-Sport academy graduate back to his homeland.

Young Boys have finished sixth then third in the last two seasons after winning the Swiss title six times in the previous seven. Schmidt becomes Leeds’ fourth senior departure of the summer, following Pascal Struijk, Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow.
