Leeds United have confirmed goalkeeper Karl Darlow has left at the end of his contract despite being offered new terms. The 35-year-old has joined Manchester United, where he will provide back-up to the first-choice keeper.

yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands that the proposal did not include a guarantee of the number one spot, which Darlow rejected in favour of the move.

Darlow linked up with Daniel Farke’s squad ahead of 2023/24 and debuted in a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town. In the following season he started the final seven Championship matches, Leeds won six, sealing the second-tier title at Plymouth Argyle on the final day of a record-breaking campaign.

In that same term he made his Wales debut, following his grandfather, and now has 15 caps as Cymru’s number one. Back in the Premier League he featured 22 times and his stop to deny Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ladislav Krejci earned April’s Save of the Month.

He departs having made 38 appearances, contributing to the 2024/25 title success and last term’s survival. The club hailed him as an exemplary professional who devoted time to Leeds United Foundation projects.

Leeds’ summer plan has been to bring in another goalkeeper. With Illan Meslier gone to Arsenal and Darlow departed, Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns are Farke’s options until a signing arrives. Perri has been linked with Torino, and Leeds are known to hold interest in James Trafford and Zion Suzuki.
