Leeds United have confirmed their XI to face Sunderland at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey, with both summer signings handed first starts as they chase a first pre-season win.
Last weekend’s US tour opener ended in a 3-2 defeat to Championship outfit Wrexham in Tampa, with Joel Piroe and Sean Longstaff on the scoresheet in an entertaining game. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports that Daniel Farke has moved towards a more senior line-up tonight.
Farke fielded a much-changed side against Wrexham, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol absent due to minor knocks. Only Ao Tanaka featured from the World Cup quartet, while new arrival Harry Wilson came on at half-time.
Wilson now starts on the right, Luka Nmecha leads the line and Callum Mills is the sole academy representative. Captain Ethan Ampadu drops to the bench, with Tanaka alongside last weekend’s goalscorer Longstaff. Jayden Bogle and the returning Gabriel Gudmundsson operate as wing-backs.
Supporters also get a first look at £34million defender Tarik Muharemovic in a back three with Joe Rodon and Sebastiaan Bornauw, and Alex Cairns in goal. Leeds starting XI: Cairns, Rodon, Muharemovic, Bornauw, Bogle, Longstaff, Tanaka, Gudmundsson, Wilson, Mills, Nmecha.
