A Leeds couple have penned an anthem to back Leeds United before their first FA Cup semi-final in almost 40 years, against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday 26 April at three pm.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Michael and Beth Pyle, both 29, wrote ‘We’re on Our Way (to Wembley)’, set to The Proclaimers’ ‘I’m on My Way’, after watching Norwich City at Elland Road last month.
A throwaway line on the journey home became a first verse they sent to The Square Ball Members’ Show. The podcast aired it and said it evoked classic club singles, prompting the pair to record a full track.
They filmed a video with friends last Saturday as Leeds beat Wolves 3-0 in the Premier League. The song has drawn over 1,000 YouTube views within two days.
Michael, from Morley, has supported Leeds since an early age. Beth, from Southport, embraced the club after meeting Michael in 2019 during Bielsa’s promotion season.
They are heading to Wembley excited to see Leeds in a semi-final Michael says is the first in his lifetime. He feels the team are punching above expectations and expects a 50-50 blue and white split to look superb, with fans ready for every tackle.
The pair say the project is a bit of fun rather than the start of a YouTube career, and they hope the dream continues with Leeds beating Chelsea.
