According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds United expect parts of their summer transfer business to be delayed by the World Cup, and club sources have dismissed talk of an early deal.

Leeds are not pursuing Japan international Hidemasa Morita, 30, whose Sporting contract is nearing its end. He has made 163 appearances for the club, including in the Champions League and Europa League. Despite claims of advanced talks or a near-completed move, the club have not even looked at him or maintained interest.

His age and profile do not fit what the Whites are seeking, and links to the midfielder have been called nonsense.

Recruitment staff are drawing up lists and profiling targets, but supporters should treat suggestions of completed deals with caution. Three Premier League games remain and top-flight status is not yet mathematically secured.

The window opens in five weeks and may drag on because of the World Cup. Many transfers, not only at Leeds, are likely to be concluded after the tournament.
