Leeds United begin their Premier League season at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with late-window business still active. Up to four deals could be wrapped up in the coming days, including a World Cup defender and three exits.
The squad has already been refreshed. James Trafford arrived from Manchester City for £40m, while Tarik Muharemovic cost £34.1m and Harry Wilson joined on a free after leaving Fulham, with both expected to start. Seven exits have followed.
Nico Elvedi landed in the UK on Monday to finalise an £8.5m switch to Elland Road. He is undergoing a medical after Borussia Monchengladbach accepted £6.8m plus £1.7m in add-ons. The Switzerland international played every game as his country reached this summer’s World Cup quarter-finals.
His arrival could clear the way for Sebastiaan Bornauw to join Hamburg on an initial loan with an option to buy, the Belgium defender flew to Germany on Sunday for a medical. Goalkeeper Lucas Perri is close to Torino on loan with a fee and an option to buy around £12m, and Leeds may then seek another back-up with only Alex Cairns behind Trafford.
Joel Piroe could also depart. talkSPORT reports that West Ham are exploring a move, though claims of advanced discussions are not thought accurate at this stage. The forward played only 15 minutes across United’s last four friendlies.
His agent, Theo Roebbers, told The Athletic that if no resolution is found this summer, Leeds should not contact him again.
