The Leeds United Foundation’s veterans group recently recognised Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) laying a wreath outside Elland Road Stadium.
Participants from our Combat Café, that all attend weekly sessions with the club’s official charity, were on hand to celebrate the anniversary (8th May) and everything that it stands for, as always with the support of coaches and staff from the Leeds United Foundation.
Those in attendance laid wreathes at the Billy Bremner Statue in acknowledgement of all that was sacrificed during World War II, with a special nod to a day that signalled an end to years of suffering that destroyed families, homes, cities ad countries.
The Leeds United Foundation set up the Combat Café to support veterans and their loved ones, providing an environment for them to socialise with likeminded people that have been through similar lived experiences.
Aiming to help combat isolation and feelings of loneliness, each session is held at Elland Road and includes free refreshments, with the opportunity to enjoy discussions and activities centred around their love for the club, alongside support with light exercises and their mental health and wellbeing.
