The Leeds United Foundation delivered a Show Racism the Red Card session at Leeds Civic Hall on Friday, continuing to demonstrate the dedication to the initiative this Black History Month.

Leeds City Council held a Show Racism the Red Card event where organisations from around the city gathered at the Civic Hall to discuss racism, the impact it has on the young people across Leeds and the difference that can be made when collaborating and standing together to stop racism.

The session ran from 10am to 12pm and was presented to over 100 Leeds City Council staff by both Foundation staff, highlighting the important work the Foundation does to help achieve its mission, as well as other organisations with similar goals.

By utilising table discussions to promote internal dialogue, and taking questions to inform of the Foundation’s proposals, the session allowed for participants to learn more about the Foundation, and how it aims to educate and highlight these issues.

Previous examples of educational sessions were shown, including recent player visits and initiatives, proving the importance of tackling racism throughout the whole of Leeds United.

Sian Westerman, Education Intervention Coach at the Foundation, said: “Today Jade and I attended the Civic Hall to showcase the amazing work that the Foundation continues to do the not only combat racism and hate crimes within our community but celebrate our differences and make a safe space for all.

“I hope that over the coming months and years, we can create more relationships with other organisations and come together to make Leeds a hate free and safe community.”

This Black History Month, Leeds United and the Leeds United Foundation will continue to provide sessions like this one, dedicated to tackling racism and highlighting the issues in society that everyone can play a part in eradicating.
