Leeds United received a timely lift before Sunday’s Premier League trip to Sunderland as West Ham lost 1-0 at home to Fulham.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the setback for the Irons strengthens Leeds’ position ahead of their game in hand. Daniel Farke’s side beat Crystal Palace 4-1 last weekend.
West Ham arrived winless in six and created several chances to lead. With the match drifting towards a stalemate, Harry Wilson returned a late cross into the area and Raul Jimenez finished with five minutes remaining.
The defeat leaves West Ham six points behind fifth-bottom Leeds, whose Stadium of Light visit now carries extra opportunity. Victory would push the cushion to nine points, a draw would make it seven.
Leeds also stay one point above fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest, beaten 2-1 at home by Manchester City earlier on Saturday. Three points at Sunderland would take Leeds level with Bournemouth after the Cherries’ 4-1 loss at Brentford.
