Leeds had their automatic promotion back to the Premier League mathematically confirmed as early as Easter Monday. before clinching the Championship title on final day of the campaign with a come-from-behind 2-1 defeat of relegated Plymouth Argyle with a last-gasp Manor Solomon winner.

That was Daniel Farke’s third Championship title after winning two with Norwich City but there were still suggestions that he would be sacked by the club – although those suggestions have now been put to bed.

Instead, the former Borussia Monchengladbach boss has reportedly been handed a £150 million war chest for this summer and one of the key areas of the squad that requires improvement is between the sticks.

Leeds competing with Fulham for Orlando Gill

According to journalist Uriel Ligt via his X account, European chasing Fulham and soon-to-be Premier League new boys Leeds are interested in signing San Lorenzo goalkeeper Orlando Gill.

In his report, Ligt has suggested that his club San Lorenzo are aware of interest in the 24-year-old stopper and that they are expecting offers to arrive for him over the summer. Ligt has also reported that Gill’s contract ends in December 2027.

Gill, a Paraguay U20 international, joined San Lorenzo de Almagro in the Argentine Primera Division as recently as last year after previously spending five years with affiliate San Lorenzo in his home country.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for his country but that is expected to come soon with the Paraguayans also set to wrap up qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the autumn.

Leeds’ goalkeeping issues

Leeds only conceded 30 goals in their 46 Championship games this season but there is a belief that number should be a lot less with supporters, as well as pundits, often heavily critical of goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Frenchman was eventually dropped for the final month or so of the campaign with Wales international Karl Darlow stepping in as number one at Elland Road as Leeds finally pushed themselves over the line with an excellent run of form towards the end of the campaign.

Following the dropping of Meslier after another mistake in a 2-2 draw at home to Swansea City in late-March, Leeds won six of their last seven matches, collecting 19 points and conceding just three goals.

They had already been linked with English-German goalkeeper Finn Dahmen of Augsburg but now San Lorenzo’s Gill does appear to be the freshest ‘keeper target for the Yorkshire giants.

It is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Leeds but they have already been dealt a few blows in the opening couple of weeks with a move for Everton striker Beto now seeming unlikely as well as Sporting CP midfielder Hidemasa Morita.
