Leeds United’s January loanee Facundo Buonanotte has been left out of the matchday squad to face Nottingham Forest at Elland Road tonight. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, his omission is a selection call rather than an injury issue.

The relegation rivals meet under the lights, with victory sending the winners nine points clear of the drop zone.

Daniel Farke has picked a midfield three of Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Brenden Aaronson, with Sean Longstaff and Ao Tanaka among the substitutes. Leeds are boosted by the returns from injury of Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha, both on the bench, while Daniel James is named in a squad for the first time since 29 November. Attacking options among the substitutes are James, Joel Piroe, Nmecha and Willy Gnonto.

Buonanotte joined on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in January. He was a summer target and was close to a season-long move before Chelsea’s interest took him to Stamford Bridge. Game time proved scarce with the World Club Cup champions, so he cut that stint short and agreed a switch to Leeds.

The attacking midfielder made his debut as a stoppage-time substitute against Everton, then featured late in the 4-0 defeat by Arsenal.

Farke has repeatedly urged patience around Buonanotte, citing the limited time he has had in training to get to grips with Leeds’ processes.
