Leeds United are six days from their Premier League return as the break reaches its final weekend, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s England role and a Jean-Matteo Bahoya injury in focus.
Bahoya started against Luxembourg Under-21s but was withdrawn after 35 minutes. According to Sky Sports, he appeared to hurt his ankle, initially tried to carry on, then made way for Mathys Tel, who scored the winner as France secured Under-21 Euros qualification.
Calvert-Lewin and James Trafford were named on Thomas Tuchel’s bench for Saturday’s Nations League tie in Croatia. Tuchel had already said Trafford would play England’s first two games, with Jordan Pickford to resume for the last two.
When Harry Kane and Anthony Gordon were withdrawn in the 70th minute, Tuchel turned to Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze, with Eze operating as a striker and Calvert-Lewin remaining on the bench. Pickford had little to do as England cruised 7-0.
Ilia Gruev started for Bulgaria but was taken off in the 55th minute of a 3-0 defeat at Nations League hosts Iceland.
Nico Elvedi’s Switzerland beat Jaka Bijol’s Slovenia 2-1, with both Leeds players completing the full match.
On Sunday, Wales host Denmark at 7.45pm. Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and youngster Jayden Lienou are in the squad, and Lienou has yet to feature in this window.
