Leeds United visit St James’ Park on Wednesday aiming to extend their Premier League unbeaten run to eight. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, away form has improved with draws at Brentford and Sunderland, but Newcastle have not lost at home since September.
Daniel Farke has suggested one of Jayden Bogle or Joe Rodon could be involved after both returned to individual work, Bogle with a calf issue and Rodon an ankle problem. There are clear doubts over starting either, given time out and likely rust, while Sean Longstaff is also not yet ready to start.
Ethan Ampadu returns from suspension to provide a timely boost. With this the third game in seven days, Farke must balance form and fitness in key areas.
In goal, Lucas Perri stays in contention. Farke criticised his role in Matheus Cunha’s equaliser, while saying on Thursday that goalkeeper rotation is not a topic, and he could do with a commanding display.
At centre-back, Sebastiaan Bornauw has been reliable and may continue, with Rodon a major doubt with an ankle issue. Jaka Bijol has improved week by week, and Pascal Struijk has thrived on the front foot, recently creating for Brenden Aaronson.
If Bogle is not passed fit, James Justin’s defensive nous could be preferred at right wing-back, particularly against the threat of Anthony Gordon.
