Jayden Bogle missed Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United with a minor calf injury. Leeds also coped without Ethan Ampadu, suspended after his fifth booking in the 0-0 draw at Liverpool.
Bogle was a surprise absentee after not starting at Anfield, where he came on in the second half on Thursday. He had been widely tipped to return, but James Justin kept his place at right wing-back after impressing on Merseyside.
“A little bit. We have four Premier League games in 10 days. It’s important we look after players, I trust my group so a little rotation,” Farke said, speaking to TNT Sports.
Leeds were boosted by Sean Longstaff’s return to the bench, the £12 million summer signing back after around six weeks out with a calf problem suffered against Aston Villa. His inclusion offered midfield depth in Ampadu’s absence.
Sebastiaan Bornauw recovered from cramp to start his second Premier League game after being forced off at Liverpool. He had impressed on New Year’s Day covering for the injured Joe Rodon, while Ilia Gruev and Anton Stach paired in midfield.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin also returned to the XI, having been rested at Anfield despite a run of seven goals in six games. “We are not chasing individual records,” Farke said. “There is no benefit if he chases an individual record and then is out with a hamstring injury for several weeks.”
